The River
Reflections on a changing landscape A while ago I came across a document produced by Leicester Council entitled “Leicester Waterside Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) Consultation Draft” It talked about extensive regeneration plans for a specific part of Leicester’s Riverside, an area that despite having lived in Leicester all my life I had never visited. Drawing on the broader aspects of landscape photography this work seeks to reflect upon that area, as it exists now, the changes happening to it and the wider issues that drive these plans. It's the river that drives these changes; originally we were drawn to it for industry, now it is lifestyle and leisure and so it is the river itself that is also the focus of these images. The water connects the old and the new, the man made and the natural; it mixes it altogether and gives a fresh perspective on the surrounding environment. The abstract, imprecision of these images is also intended to signal the uncertainty about the changes happening in the city and provide a stylistic approach that will hopefully question existing preconceptions of this area
